Dumbarton House Porch Concert Tonight!

The RFCA is excited to present another free show for the community, on the porch of the Dumbarton House TONIGHT August 9th at 6:30 pm. Join us under the trees to enjoy the music of the Mike Kuhl ‘Unity’ Quartet. Just Like Home, an Indian food truck, will be on-site beginning at 6 pm, or feel free to BYO cooler. As a tribute to one of his all-time inspirational albums, drummer Mike Kuhl has assembled an all-star cast of musicians with Dave Ballou (trumpet), Brian Settles (tenor saxophone), and Will Gorman (organ), to recreate the legendary Larry Young album “Unity.”

Recorded in 1965, “Unity” has stood the test of time and continues to inspire musicians today. In Kuhl’s group, the music is masterfully arranged by Ballou. Although the group takes some liberties with tempo and interpretations, they are entirely respectful of the compositions. Individually, each member of the quartet shines with a skill set that is completely their own; when combined their collective spirit produces a beautiful sound that honors the masterpiece.
