Architectural Guidelines 2024 Updates

Each property in Rodgers Forge has covenants and restrictions in their property deeds that set standards for the development of property and any exterior change or alteration. As a historic neighborhood with a strong architectural character, the Rodgers Forge Community Association (RFCA) Architectural Committee has maintained a set of Architectural Guidelines in order to maintain the quality and aesthetic of our community.

As the Committee routinely reviews applications and other recent trends in the neighborhood, the Committee reviews the Guidelines in order to incorporate necessary updates, clarifications, and modifications. This fall, the Committee reviewed the guidelines and has proposed several revisions to the RFCA Board in order to ensure the Guidelines are clear and easy for residents to follow as they plan and begin exterior projects.

These updates include:

  • New language generally permits certain lattices to be installed on elevated decks and clarifies prohibited installations.

  • Clarifications regarding permitted fences, including wood fence definitions, the addition of language regarding garden/decorative fencing in the front of properties, and documenting previously approved guidance regarding fencing on Pinehurst Ave.

  • New language expressly permitting reasonable household-mounted flag poles, and prohibiting in-ground flag poles.

  • Permit decks to be painted white.

  • Expansion of language regarding rear parking pads, including permitting in certain circumstances the installation of parking pads perpendicular to the alley in the rear of properties.

  • Clarifications regarding porch and sidewalk railings

  • New language regarding “temporary structures” to expressly permit temporary tents, sun sails, children’s playgrounds, etc. with certain restrictions.

The full draft Architectural Guidelines are available here.

The Architectural Committee values the community's input to make sure that we properly incorporate reasonable updates, while also maintaining the neighborhood aesthetic with current building materials, context, and existing conditions.
